The Chicago Children's Museum proposal for its move to Grant Park goes before the Chicago Plan Commission tomorrow, May 15th. If you oppose the museum, please make your opinion known. Contact your alderman, sign the petition (see link in left column) on the Save Grant Park website, or write a letter to Mayor. Every voice will help, and now is the time to use yours.
The Chicago-Tribune has created a Grant Park Clearinghouse of their editorial board's campaign to protect Grant Park and includes videos of alternate sites. (The introduction is worth reading also.) For some additional background on the issue, please see Lynn Becker's ArchitectureChicago Plus and the timeline of Illinois Supreme Court Decisions pertaining to Grant Park.
This is important; it isn't kid's stuff...and Montgomery Ward is watching.

Sharon, if you have the time you can write an insert on this for the Primary Source Agenda. This is the type of stuff that needs to be broadcast. I need all info in by May 25 if you are interested.
It would be nice if you included a sentence or two explaining why you oppose it.
penandspindle: I'll be contacting you.
Welcome, Greg. Glad you stopped by. My opinion of the Children's Museum really doesn't matter much since I don't live in Chicago. But, since you asked...I think that if the museum is allowed to build in Grant Park it will be just the beginning of a rush by other organizations who would like that plumb location. It could very well start a downward spiral for the green space so beloved. Also, the Illinois Supreme Court has upheld the decision that the Park should remain open and free. Free. The Children's Museum is not free nor is it for all children. It is for children who can pay the admission price. As I said, my opinion means very little. Because the issue has roots in Chicago's history, I thought it appropriate for my blog. The Mayor, however, will no doubt have his way.
Thanks for answering. My query was a bit rhetorical as your position was pretty inferrable in the subtext of the post.
Please take a look at my blog sometime, I am also blogging a lot about Chicago. I also borrowed, and gave credit for something from your blog. http://gregsandell.blogspot.com
