Ghosts of Chicago Christmas Past

The Chicago Daily News archive has five wonderful pages of photos of "Christmas Activities" in old Chicago. The picture here is of shoppers bustling along State Street in front of Marshall Field's. The picture was taken in ca. 1905. (I chose this picture purposefully. I'm in mourning. You remember Marshall Field's, don't you...sigh.)

Thanks for stopping by, Allena. No, I am not anti-Macy's per se. I am anti Macy's at the corner of State and Randolph in Chicago. But, I would be anti any business which would presume to establish itself on, what I consider, hallowed Chicago history ground.

People History - you gave me a chuckle! You know your Chicago history! What our friend here is referring to is the old saying, "All the girls who wear high heels They trade down at Marshall Field's. All the girls who scrub the floor, They trade at the Boston Store." Yes, I agree. Macy's doesn't fit the rhyme... or reason.
